- God has led me in many wonderful ways over the
last several years. He has taught me what it means to love and be
loved. He has made me realize my fragilities and why I must depend
on him for ALL my needs.
- My favorite bible verse -
Psalm 42: 1-2 >
As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God......
- When I need daily spiritual support from God, I turn to
My Utmost For
His Highest by Oswald Chambers or
Our Daily Bread
by Radio Bible Class.
- Lately I have been listening to Andy Stanley's
weekly sermons
as his sermons speak to me more every time I listen to them.
For me, 2002 has been a year of many ups and downs. After QoS Networks filed
for Chapter 11 protection, I continued to work with Mr. Dan O'Neill, CEO of QoS
in a vain attempt to retain the single customer QoS had. While the effort was
well worth the learning experience, the lies and false statements caused me to
realize why QoS failed.
QoS Networks was an International Telecommunications Company
based in Dublin Ireland. In February 2001 when I began began working for them
as the resident Sales Engineering supporting the Worldwide Sale and Marketing efforts
I quickly came to understand that QoS was two men, a bag of money and a dog. While
I was able to provide support for South America, Europe, and Japan, I quickly realized
there was no real focus on where they were going or what they were attemping to accomplish.
The telecommunications infrastructure from the outside appears complicated,
is a very simple basic flat design. The misconception most new players have with the emerginging
arena of telecommunications is an attempt to build a new network without consideration
to the current base design, the process, and procedures already in place and working.
This was very true at QoS and with Mr O'Neill. I had to opportunity to work with some
of the most wonderful people I have ever known and whom I continue to stay in touch with.
Prior to QoS Networks, I had a wonderful time with Greenwich
Technology Partners, White Plains, NY as a Consulting Engineer in their Carrier
Branch out of Chantilly, VA. Greenwich Technology Partners focuses exclusively
on providing infrastructure architecture services to the Global 2000, Internet
Service Providers (ISPs), telecommunications providers and select dot.com
companies. The opportunity to join GTP provides the chance to deliver on the
20+ years of telecommunications experience and work with a GREAT group of
forward thinking people.
As the 2000 New Year has begun, I have looked back on the past years and am
reminded
You alone are the Lord; You have made heaven,
the earth and everything on it
- Nehemiah 9:6.
Keeping this in mind, I have decided to embark on a career that many have told me I
should have done a long time ago. I will be working with Anjan Ghosal of
Intellinet Technologies in Melbourne, FL. My endeavor as the Internetwork
Solutions Engineer will be to deliver comprehensive SS7 and C7
internetworking solutions. This is an area I have always wanted to be
involved in and with the transition from circuit based to packet-based
technology it promises to be an exciting endeavor.
I have come to understand during the last three months of 1999, the meaning
of " I know the truth, and the truth has
set me free" - John 8:32.
What ever the Lord allows to happen to me, I know that I will never lose
my positive "up beat" optimism as knowing
Jesus as my personal savior is more important to me.
I have been reminded by a dear friend Elton Kam of Excel Switching,
that "For
God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a
sound mind" - 2 Timothy 1:7. During the last several months,
I have been with Lucent Technologies in Naperville, IL as a Network
Solutions Consultant. At Lucent, I worked closely with Lucent's newest
acquisitions to architect and integrate their products into network
solutions for the emerging CLECs.
Prior to Lucent, I was with Excel Switching. Excel has now been
acquired by Lucent Technologies. I learned more about telecommunications with
Excel than in the past 17 years. The Atlanta Office of Excel had grown from a
small executive suite to a Technical Support Center located at 4989 Peachtree
Parkway. Working with Don Knight, Excel's Southeast Regional Sales Manager had
been GREAT.
Excel's Headquarters are located in Hyannis (Cape Cod), MA. I joined
Excel Switching after Summa Four (now Cisco), Excel's direct competition closed
their Southeast Regional Sales office in Atlanta, Georgia.
Prior to Summa Four I worked for Hewlett-Packard and
"commuted" between the Telecommunication Platform Operations (TPO)
Lab in San Jose, California and the Telecommunication Network Operations (TNO)
Lab in Grenoble, France with stops in Denver, CO, Dallas, TX, and Atlanta, GA.
My work at Hewlett-Packard involved designing and developing for the US
Telecommunication Market a Service Control Point (SCP) for use in the Advanced
Intelligent Network (AIN).
Prior to Hewlett-Packard, I worked for LDDS WorldCom (formally WilTel)
where I was the Southeastern Regional Senior Application Engineer. At WilTel, I
was involved with the announcement and marketing of the first Frame Relay
network using WilTel's 40,000 miles of fiber optic cable.
Before WilTel and after graduating in 1974 from New York University
(Greenwich Village) with a B.S. in Computer Science, I began working with IBM
where, yes "I Been Moved".
I spent many of my years with IBM in
Europe - living initially in Hamburg, Germany,
then Windlesham, England with an
intermediate stop in Stuttgart, Germany.
While on assignment in England, I was
responsible for the first internal modem for the IBM PC and in conjunction,
developed hardware and software product for
Videotex ,
the first WWW protocol called PRESTEL.
Between overseas assignments, I lived in Boca Raton, Florida
where I still visit to see if the
Camino Real Bridge
is up or down.
I spent my formidable years attending in Verona, NJ where I attended
Verona High School and graduated in 1964. During my high school
years I enjoyed
playing Ice Hockey and as the manager of the award
winning Soccer team in 1963
and 1964. I was also a member of the Verona Auxiliary Fire Department.
I have been a contributing author to many books, but my most enjoyable
writing was for the "Multimedia Networking Handbook". My chapter
Designing and Managing the
Multimedia Network was the first of my many writing endeavors I will be
making as I have been bitten by the writing bug.
I have spent many wonderful hours rafting the many rivers here in the
US. My favorite adventure was the Arkansas River
in Canon City, Colorado. Some
pictures during one of my many trips
with my son
after our day of rafting. Here is another just before I rode the Royal Gorge
with Erik.
I have returned several times to Cape Cod and visited my "Home
away from home" where I spent many wonderful summers when I was growing
up. I have many fond memories of my time at the
Cape Cod Sea Camps.
After many summers with them, I came to understand that "I Can and I Will"
and nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it with God's help.
My "Winter home" for several of my formidable years and where
I still have many fond memories of is Eaglebrook,
located in Deerfield, Mass. I can still remember the majestic beauty of the
fall leaves and the fun we had sneaking down to the "Candy store"
- among other things!
